Q2.

During the trip, what impressed you the most? Why?

What impressed me the most... I would say would be making the grains of rice. It seems like it’s so much effort to simply make one small bag of rice that it doesn’t seem worth it, but through generations after generations they have done so and will not stop even for something perhaps would be more profitable. They have to pick the grain, shred the shells, and then package them, not to mention keeping them refrigerated and such. Likewise, the tea house was quite impressive too. The amount of vegetarian delicacies was astounding as well as the crude, hard work needed to transform those simple tea leaves into wonderful, aroma-filling tea.

River tracing was the most fun activity of the entire trip. I enjoyed being active and adventurous while admiring beautiful scenery and interacting with aboriginal people.

The thing that impressed the most is the nature of Taiwan land, it is so epic, words can’t describe the feeling. Also I’m impressed that the Taiwanese students know their land very well, they can explain to us at anytime, even I don’t know the parts of Malaysia. I’m totally impressed.

What impressed me most about this trip was how scenic and beautiful Taiwan is, especially how different, and yet beautiful in each region it was/is. Taipei’s city life is just as beautiful as the rural areas we visited, even though they are so different.

I think that Taroko Gorge was the most impressive by far millions of years of earth moving has created an incredibly beautiful landscape. The towering cliffs and mountains were awe-inspiring.

The scenery and beauty of the mountains and nature impressed me the most because it is rare to see such breathtaking sights where I live.

Meeting President Ma. um…does this need to be explained?

The quality of the hotels were impressive. We consistently stayed in hotels that were high quality and well staffed. Unfortunately, we did not get to enjoy a lot of the amenities because we usually arrived late into the night. The nightlife of Taipei was also very impressive because of the safety, the adventure, and the city people’s general friendliness.

The family aspect, for sure. If I were to create my own country, it would probably be Taiwan, with respect to the familiar culture. I could not believe that despite age differences, educational background differences, and socioeconomic incongruities, that we were able to be welcomed with open arms, joked with as if we were kin, etc. It was really incredible. I think it's a huge testament to how proud - but humble - the Taiwanese people are that they are able to be so welcoming.

I think that the two totally different sides of Taiwan impressed me the most...seeing people living without a TV and then a company that makes a lot of inventions and uses technology to help people...I think that impressed me because its two totally different way of life...in a small place!!!!

That is the relationship between people in this group and the care of Taiwan government to overseas youth

This is hard to say, because there were so many things that left me in awe. If I had to point out a specific landmark, it would be the Taroko Valley…it’s disgustingly huge and beautiful. It just leaves me speechless. If I had to point out something less specific, I would say the group’s ability to become so close in such a period of time. I attribute part of this to the fact that the counselors were so down to earth and friendly with everyone themselves.
I was also impressed by how little of Taiwan I actually knew about…Sure, I heard about “the beauty of sun-moon lake” and the “awesomeness of tarako” but I never really understood it- I took a lot of it for granted.

The dance performed by the natives, even though they weren’t professional dancers but just simple kids. But their dance is really special and unique of Taiwan.

Most impressive was the whole experience of Taroko Valley. I think it goes without saying that the scenery of cliffs and waterfalls paired with the down-to-earth aboriginal song and dance were a breathtaking combination.

Taroko national park – stunning
The guides who showed us around the sites – showed so much enthusiasm and passion for their jobs

My favorite activity was the river tracing and afterwards the tour of the National Park. I like water so playing in the river was really fun. The tour was also very good. I got to see a lot of beautiful places.

I was most impressed by the scenery of Taiwan, rather than the food. I really enjoyed Sun Moon Lake, and I wish we could have spent more time there.
